How to Define Your Timeless Style

Is your style forever 21? Are you eternally young hearted? Are you a muse for fashion but not quite sure if you fit the bill of the fashion elite?

When we get busy with our jobs, raising children, studying in school, building a business or just busy as heck, we forget about looking our best and most importantly feeling our best.

Looking lovely at any age is paramount to confidence and motivation to achieve your goals.

I’m a working mom, a wife, a daughter, a sister, a friend and I want to look good and feel good. I have a hectic schedule and I know you do too.

I look back at this photo of me a few years ago and smile. What I like about this photo is I feel put together, little makeup, and my hair is pulled back in a bun. Do you have a photo of yourself that exudes confidence and displays your true beauty?

Style concerns and style solutions

Concerned about weight in a few places?  Slouchy boyfriend jeans are a must. Get the ripped version for a trendy weekend look.

Too many carbs or fermented grapes making your style bent out of shape? Tunics are the answer. They are long enough to wear as a top. And tunics do all the work so you can feel comfortable and not self-conscience.

Style classics for any age

My husband is a sucker for simple style looks on me. When we first meet, I was wearing a black dress and black heels. Here are styles to keep it simple and classic.

  1. Cardigans with color or prints mix easily with a white button-down shirt or with a slinky blouse.
  2. Scarfs be gone! Kimonos are the IT piece. I live in central Texas and it’s typically too hot for a scarf. Kimonos tend to be more sheer and lightweight. They are a great transition piece to use between the seasons. I’ve made a few DIY kimonos myself without even using a sewing machine. Just buy at least two yards of fabric and measure the armholes against a sleeveless shirt you have in your closest.
  3. Accessorize with jewelry and handbags.

The Capsule Look

I talk about the Capsule Look in this post about minimizing and decluttering because a capsule wardrobe is so genius for busy people like me. Think of the capsule system like it’s your personal uniform. You pick 10-20 items for your wardrobe and mix and match the tops, bottoms, shoes, accessories, etc.

Style your favs with a transition piece, top, jeans, and a handbag.

Wrapping up

I’m a millennial mom, I’m not going to dress like my mom did or like my grandmother did when they were my age. But the greatest thing I learned about style from them is to exude confidence at any age or stage in life. Let style be about who you are.

Even though many Saturdays, I’m in leggings and a t-shirt, this mama has to get her groove back and mix it up.

Turn to the classics of style like tunics and flats when you are super busy saving the world before midnight. Kimonos are an IT piece for any style, any age, or season. Accessorize with mixed metals and a casual handbag.

Lastly, create your own “uniform” with a style capsule of what you already own and style it with a new piece every now and then.

In the comments, tell me what is your go-to pieces for style?

Truly,

Monique
